Prelude: The Light

(the light amidst darkness)

Calvary Youth (CA + CCSM) gathered yesterday at Ben Ong's palace to celebrate lantern festival. it was quite cool actually, to have a gathering to get everyone mixing around, fellowshipping with each other. it has been quite awhile since we did something like that together as a youth group.

the celebration started with Darren Yong worship leading, followed by a hilarious skit (story of chang-er and all) in conjunction with lantern (or mooncake) festival. i’ve got a copy of the skit but uploading it now is somewhat troublesome so i’ll skip it for now.

oh btw, the food was very good! i can’t remember all the dishes now but it was good and that’s all it matters. :P there were tons of mooncakes on the table and being janwong, i finished 2 of them myself. i like mooncakes, but it just doesn’t go with coke or even ribena. the Chinese tea (English, actually. lol) came out a little too late.

(treasures in the dark!)

and of course, it was time for games after food. we made our way to the playground opposite Ben’s house, each with lanterns lit. it was quite a sight actually, to see so many lanterns lit up in a really dark playground. guess what? they’re supposed to do treasure hunting in the dark. lol. some of them managed to locate the treasures (4 cans of coke – scattered) very quickly though.

the next game got everyone busy. they were split into teams and were supposed to burn a wet string into half with just 1 candle, with the remaining members trying to ‘defend’ the fire from being blown away by ‘attackers’ (members from other teams). it was quite chaotic i would say, but it was fun. :)

(another pic from the games)

ps.i know the quality isn't good, taken from my phone, bear with it.

as i ponder upon this event, i realised that we all have lanterns and we're supposed to shine, and bring The Light to the darkness, not just gather around each other because there isn't much of a point for it to be bright just at one spot. lights should be all over the place! it is our calling afterall, to be the light of the world...

yes indeed :)
a timely reminder for calvary youth, especially after Ignite, where it also bears the same message :)

to ignite others, to light up OTHER people's lanterns. hehe.
